Ride

Trans America Trail - TAT
Author Last Post
Hey Gary,

I am glad to see you have been enjoying the TAT.  I did the ride in two segments last year.  The first from NC to
AR in about 1 week in the Spring.  Then 3 of us started to ride the last 2/3 from AR to OR during July following the 4th.  We had great weather after it poured on us the night we arrived in AR.  I cracked my ulna(forearm) non displaced and didn't realize it until 4 days later.  My riding buddy, went down in some OK sand as well and shattered his shoulder close to the KS border.  His injury effectively ended his trip and his friend quit as well.  I finished the trip after a layover in Moab to repair a rear wheel issue I began the trip with.  I should have gotten it taken care of before leaving and I could have finished the trip without getting it fixed probably, but I figured it would be better getting it fixed.  Spokes were the issue and the hub assembly.

Way to go Gary. Did you ride it yourself? How many days did you spend on each of the two sections you completed? Could be something I will want to put on my list.

All TAT fans. I have now done two Trans America Trail rides on this side of the country.  Good times.

The first section of NC through TN, I did on the G650GS in December of 2016.

I just finished the Mississippi section this Memorial Day weekend.

Next section will be Arkansas on Labor Day weekend in September.

Ride Safe.

Has anyone ridden the Trans America Trail?  Any of it or all of it?

Does anyone who belongs to this Club have any interest in riding any or all of it?  I am considering purchasing the maps and roll charts for the TAT and would like to find someone else who is comfortable with DS riding and would like to ride any or all of the Trail.

Brian K,

Not sure if you did the ride or even part of it, as I am responding to a two year old post but I hope you have and enjoyed it. I have the entire TAT map set and roll charts for the entire trail but here in Georgia, I only brought with me the SP through OK.

I did the TAT Oregon section with my brother several years back. I have also done the OBCDR Route 4 with my brother and also the main OBCDR (all of route 5) with two of my Army buddies.

Anyhow, now that I am back in the states, I plan of piecing sections of the TAT throughout the next two years.  In fact, I will start on the 21st and am starting the trail and getting through TN.  If all goes well, my brother and I plan to do OK to OR in 2019 when ("if") I retire from the Army.

Happy Holidays.

Gary

Hey Mack,

I got your e-mail.  Thanks.  I will be back in town around the 10th of September.  Hope you are doing well.  I look forward to doing some riding together and getting to know each other.

Hey Brian - I'm interested, but time will be the big factor for me. I'll reply to your email as well so we can plan something.
