Ride

Johnathan, Joe and I ended up riding a Home/TWoS/Chatsworth/Marble Hill/Home route today.  Jonathan on his R1150GS, Joe on his R1200RT and me on my Cagiva Gran Canyon.  For me it was a 250 miles day.  We met at Starbucks at Holcomb Bridge Rd.  Left there at 8:50am and rode directly to TWoS arriving at 10:00am (60 miles).  Left at 10:50am after a pancake breakfast and having checked in with some of those attending the GMA.  Arrived in Chatsworth at 12:35pm (70 miles).  Lunch at Los Amigos then a hunt around four or five gas stations for some 93 octane gas.  Finally scored at the Sonoco south of town on the short connector between US 411 and Old US 411.  After paying a hansom premium for gas, we were finally on our way at 2:05pm.  Arrived at Ga 400 via Marble Hill at 4:15pm, having had a 10 minute pause for discussion with a Pickens County Deputy Sheriff on the merits of coming to a full stop at a stop sign…. (65 miles).  Pause at a QuikTrip to cool off a little in some a/c and for refreshments, then south on Ga 400 and home.  Road conditions were good.  Did get stuck behind some slow traffic heading north on Ga 60 out of Suches.  Cleared this when we turned off west via Dial, but ended up behind slower traffic again in the last length of Big Creek Rd towards Hwy 52.  Route over Fort Mountain into Chatsworth was also busy.  Nothing spoiled the riding, and from Chatsworth on we made our own time.  Nice open twisties on most of the route.  Only being a little cooler later in the afternoon would have improved on what was a perfect day.

Jonathan and I plan to ride up to TWoS Saturday morning to join folks for breakfast (approx. leave Atlanta 8:00am arrive TWoS 9:30am), leave TWoS approx. 10:30am for Chatsworth, stop there for lunch and then back towards TWoS via Talking Rock, etc.  Probably head back to Atlanta at Amicalola, but may travel back to TWoS if time permits.  Happy to have company there/back or on the trip around.  

On the maps, up/around/back are the magenta and green routes, and two full around options are the red and blue.  GPX should be self-explanatory.
