I went AWOL yesterday afternoon. Too sunny, too warm and I needed a mental health break. Time to take my first ride of 2017. The RT had not been out since December 3rd.
My surgery and recovery have gone well, but because of exceptional "mending time" required I cannot even start active shoulder movement and strength rehab for another 2-4 weeks. I probably will not be given a green light to ride for at least another 4-6 weeks past that. Withdrawal from riding is challenging. (And, yes, I do know our Northern states riders withdraw for months at a time.)
I fessed up to my wife and two neighbors who saw me pulling out of my drive, but took things slow and easy and was extra careful at every stop. Oh, to hear that engine rev. Ah, gears snicking up and down and enjoying the feel of power coming back to life. Secondary roads around my side of Athens were almost deserted.
An hour was enough and I knew I should not test physical limits too much. The bike is safely and comfortably snugged back in the garage now. We hold promise of more Good Days to come!
