We had a blast yesterday. Eleven grand Teutonic machines made their way north after a coffee and donut sendoff by Kyle and company at Hourglass Cycles. Our planned leader was unable to make the trip, so Greg Partain graciously stepped up and did a wonderful job. Yours Truly rode sweep, and managed to miss Greg's phone number by a single stinking digit. This resulted in what I'll call a "separation" of, say, 15 miles or so. I redeemed myself somewhat when I (finally) recalled the member directory on our website which yielded Mr Partain's complete and correct digits. At last we were reunited and made our impressive entry, (only the truly unkind would call it an invasion), into the idyllic mountain hamlet of Highlands. Theresa Lovallo, Clark Helton, and Dave Westfall awaited us there. To my surprise Brian Kunzelmann appeared out of thin air as well. The photo is proof of what happens if you walk away from the group for one skinny minute: Everyone else clusters 'round your bike and takes a picture with it and without you, (sorry Boerge!)
We were delighted that Nils Stein was back after a lengthy illness. As he said, "I can't walk but I can ride" and he proceeded to show us how it's done.
Many, many thanks to all the other intrepid riders: Billy Way, Ross Bickers, Jim Bishop, Boerge Deist, Rudy Bristow, Mark Sanford, Ed Livingston, and whomever I missed. Your patience and good humor made for a fabulous day. I can't wait to do it again, but damned if I won't double-check the digits next time.
