Ride

July Saturday Social
Author Last Post
We had a great turnout for this event -in fact an overflow crowd. We met some new members (on brand new bikes) and enjoyed a nice meal on the porch at the restaurant. Several folks rode off together to explore the paved and unpaved roads in the area.

Here's a few pictures from the event. (No, Jonathan was not sleeping there-he was likely contemplating some profound thought)

Hope to see everyone at our August breakfast social in Dunwoody at the Atlanta Bread Company.

Here's an updated GPX file.  I tweaked it to exclude the Old Orchard Ext/Old Burnt Mountain loop.  Having now ridden these roads (Old Orchard was all gravel until fairly recently paved, so I wanted to see what it was like) I have determined that it has little merit over the main route.

Met Jonathan S at the QT.  Rode red route.  Connected with Tom P on Ga 52.  Arrived at restaurant 11:10am.

I counted 18 folks at lunch.  Good mix.

Jonathan S and I rode blue route back with small detour in Elijay to hole up in a DQ for 20 min while storm passed.  Other than some sprinkles kept dry.

Nice day.

One of the last times I ate at Toccoa Riverside my GPS routed me along the gravel road.  It was no problem since I was on the GS at the time but Susan was in our group and riding her F800 street bike.  She did pretty well on the gravel section but I wouldnt recommend it for folks with limited gravel experience on street bikes. Its nothing for a dual sport bike, but could be treacherous for a larger street bike.

Thanks for the route.  I'll pick up this route either at Yellow Creek or in Jasper.  Depending on that morning and when your departing.

My current plan is to make the lunch at Toccoa Riverside.

If things go to plan, I'll ride either the Green or Red routes on the attached route map to the restaurant.  Leaving the QuikTrip at Ga400/306 at 9:00am.  Blue route back.

Happy to have company.

I have some juggling to do, so I will not be 100% sure I will make the ride until Thursday, maybe as late as Friday.  I'll confirm in a post here.  I'll also post GPX files here when I get a moment.

For those planning all-tarmac routes, note that Garmin mapping may route you along gravel sections on Rock Creek/Stanley Creek Rd. and Double Head Gap Rd.  I've marked these on the map.

Wish I could make it but will be driving back from Florida on Saturday. Really enjoyed my trout lunch there last year.

Make your plans to join us on Sat July 8 at Toccoa Riverside Restaurant in Blue Ridge. We'll meet at 11:30 for lunch, (the food is wonderful!), and informal rides. The roads in the area are fabulous, as many of us know. Last year we had a huge turnout and everybody had a blast. Hope to see you there!
