Atlanta Area Express Lanes
Author Last Post

For my car, yes the sticker needs to be top center of the windshield.  For the motorcycle, I just keep it in my tank bag.  Both vehicles are registered with Peachpass.  The 75/575 Express lanes will charge a motorcycle.  The 85 lanes are free.

From my research the reason for the difference is that the 85 lanes were converted from the HOV lanes and therefor under Federal law must be free to motorcycles and alternative fuel vehicles.  The 75/575 lanes are new construction and were not part of the 75 HOV lanes.  They charge every type of vehicle except for buses and emergency vehicles.

On the windshield in the center, could be on the top or the bottom as long as it is visible. Or the headlight. Those are the only 2 places I was told.
I just called again and the lady who helped me said that some incorrect advice was given but the transponder sticker needs to be on the bike.
I called about a month ago and the person over the phone said that registration was required but the peach pass sticker was not required to be put on a motorcycle anywhere. I was told that as long as the bike is registered there will be no issues.

I will check again.
Yep, I also inquired and asked the same question, twice so far, once in February and again in July, and also asked where exactly they wanted it installed on a motorcycle. IE: center? how high on the windshield? or from the ground? Where would you mount it if the motorcycle didn't have a windshield?  Still waiting for an answer...... and waiting............

I made an inquiry to the Peach Pass several weeks ago to find out why the 75/575 lanes were not free to motocycles.  Never got a reply.  Same program but different rules for different roads.  I foresee future issues.

With new express lanes opening to the north of Atlanta this fall here’s an update (as of September 5th, 2018 – check here) on the toll requirements for motorcycles.

Summary
‘Bike must have a Peach Pass decal
I-85 express lanes are free
I-75/I-575 express lanes are not free

A little more detail:

I-85

Motorcycles are exempt from tolls, but need to have a Peach Pass account and decal on the ‘bike to use legally.

Lanes are contiguous with the main highway.

EXISTING I-85 Express Lanes – 16-mile corridor of lanes from Chamblee Tucker Road (just south of I-285) to Old Peachtree Road in Gwinnett County.

NEW I-85 Extension – 10-mile corridor extending the existing I-85 Express Lanes north to Hamilton Mill Road.

I-75/I-575

Motorcycles are not exempt from tolls and need to have a Peach Pass account and decal on the ‘bike to use legally.

Reversible lanes (“tidal-flow” – typically open toward Atlanta for morning commute and away from the city in the evening) separated from the main highway.

EXISTING I-75 South Metro Express Lanes – 12-mile corridor from McDonough Road (State Route 155) in Henry County to Stockbridge Highway (State Route 138) in Clayton County.

NEW Northwest Corridor Express Lanes – 16-mile corridor along I-75 from Akers Mill Road to Hickory Grove Road, and 11-mile corridor along I-575 from I-75 to Sixes Road.
