The BMW MC of Georgia held its annual weekend getaway in the Blue Ridge mountains of Western North Carolina. As usual, the event was held at the Blue Ridge Motorcycle Campground in Cruso, NC. Cruso is very close to the Blue Ridge Parkway and also very convenient to the Cherohala Parkway. The campsite is rustic and only motorcycles are permitted on the grounds which are bordered by a gentle stream and there is a small pond on the property. Riders can chose between tent camping, or basic cabins (picture a large shed with a bed, not some sort of "glamping" arrangement with a hot tub, folks)

Over a dozen members participated, with most arriving Friday and a few stragglers rolling in Saturday morning. Many rode the parkway and toured surrounding small towns and scenic roads.

Saturday morning, a small group headed into Waynesville NC for lunch at a local sandwich shop in the Frog Level section of Waynesville. where outdoor seating by the stream made for a relaxing afternoon. The tourists also visited a local general store that featured all kinds of candy you would remember from your childhood such as Bit O Honey, Root Beer Barrels, Pixie Stix, Mal-O-Mars and other items designed to induce a diabetic coma.

Saturday night, most folks ate dinner at the campground. They were serving Brunswick Stew and Corn bread. It was passable but next time I think I'd ride into Waynesville and catch a meal at one of the local restaurants and skip the camp food. Or prepare some delicious dehydrated thing in a Jetboil. After dinner, Scoobs surprised Susan Benson with a customized sheet cake to celebrate her 60th birthday. Unfortunately,due to NC fire regulations which limit the magnitude of open flame, it was not possible to have a candle for each year of her birthday :-)
